So many of us Mamas think we need to hold back on investing in ourselves and our futures when we are home with little ones. Our incomes are generally much smaller than they used to be, so this is not the right time to be putting time and money into us. Right?
Our job right now is to nurture our families. It’s to be there for our little ones and our partners, and occasionally squeeze in a yoga or body attack class. Right?
I know money can be tight, and I know it’s a tough slog going from two incomes to one, with all the added bonus costs that come with children. But there are ways and means sister that can ensure you are still putting your dreams out there for the world to embrace. You can still invest in you.
In fact, you must.
By delaying focusing on your dreams or goals, you are not only devaluing yourself and showing the Universe that you are not worthy of great happiness yet, but there’s an even greater risk here – bitterness.
You know those Mamas who are quick to loose their temper at their children? You know the ones that complain about their days endlessly? You know the ones who just don’t seem to love being a Mama? They are not investing in themselves.
Those Mamas have been putting themselves on hold for too long. They believe they can’t focus on their weight, their health, their dreams, their studies because …. well, there’s usually a long list of excuses.
But let me tell you – it won’t work. Those reasons you won’t put time and energy into YOU will change and disappear, and you will find new excuses to replace them. There will always be a reason not to. The big challenge is to focus on the reason you should.
And one of the best reasons of all is… because happy mama is a happy baby. And a happy mama is a happy family.
Investing in you IS investing in your family sweetheart. It is the very best investment they can get.
So, how can you start investing in yourself? What is your soul screaming out for?
I started working with a gorgeous coach about six months ago, which has changed my life. At first, I was really reluctant to spend the money on me, worrying that it was a luxury that I couldn’t justify. Thankfully, I have a super supportive husband who backs me every single step of the way, and he knew this was something I really needed. And boy was he right.
It has changed my life. I have someone in my corner, constantly cheering me on. I have someone who I can vent to and pour my deepest fears and freak outs to, who then gives me the most amazing tools to sort my self out and carry on. I have someone who has pointed me in the right direction so many times I have done a complete 360 to who I was before.
It’s been an investment in me.
What about you? Is there some way you can start investing in your wellbeing and your future?
* If you are interested in revamping your health and wellbeing, and the idea of a coach really speaks to your soul, my very inspiring and beautiful friends Kirri White and Corona Brady are offering ‘Nourished’ – a mentoring e-course at the moment which I promise will be the best investment you’ve made in yourself… ever. (I am an affiliate of this program, but I am singing its praises because I know these girls change lives. Click on the link on my front page to learn more and sign up.)
* If a full on coaching course is too much for you right now, there are amazing e-books (both free and for just a small investment) that can help you begin to invest in yourself. Tara Bliss and Rachel Macdonald’s newly released book ‘Spirited’ is chock-full of guidance and is a workbook to get your soul’s desire moving. Also, Leonie Dawson is AMAZING. I’ve just signed up for her Amazing Biz and Life Academy, but she also has smaller programs and ebooks that help in every area of your life. If none of these excite you like they do me, just spend some time searching the web for blogs that really speak to you, and then download their resources.
* Join a local exercise group or yoga studio. Hook up with local Mums and Bubs groups, and use the time to not only invest in your health and sanity (those catch ups are a god send!) but you don’t even need to get a babysitter! Invest in your health one step at a time Beautiful. Even if it’s an hour a week – it will make a difference.
* Is there something you’d love to study but don’t have the time or money to do it yet? Start with books and on-line resources in the same area. I would love to study Ayurveda and energy work, but that ain’t happening yet. Instead, I have found some amazing websites that walk me through the basics. I’ve also taught myself about chakras and energy healing in the past few months just from on-line courses(free!).
By deciding that you are going to start doing something for yourself NOW, instead of putting it off because of money, time or guilt, you are taking charge of your life. You are putting yourself first, even in the smallest of ways.
Our lives don’t get put on hold when we become Mums – they simply change pace and direction. It is still our time.
And remember - the universe rewards the brave.
